Default ccld unit 303 K3D205: high expectations of children

The importance of having high expectations of children, based on realistic expectations of what the can achieve. I keep reading this over and over , i know we should no realistically what children can achieve and by pushing them too far may make them fail and in doing so this would effect their emotional development. Its the importance of having high expectations bit of the question that is giving me a blonde moment. I know we should always encourage children to better themselves but does this mean not to set a goal which is out ot their reach.....Oh my someone point me in the right direction please..........

lol it is late now but that sounds spot on .. know it's important to have high expectations but realise setting goals unrealistically would be detrimental to development and well being.

Having higher expectations is being able to see where someone is heading, planning out the steps to get there and mapping a route ... it shows caring, awareness, interest & hope for whatever the future has - creating provision for positive progression .. but in the same way being able to drop all of that, give a great big hug & say 'blow it .... is as equally important

I'll probably be back to edit this but Hansel & Gretel's trek through the wood with the breadcrumbs oddly comes to mind. lol

Night xx
