Default read/write

hi can anyone give me some ideas for a read write session i have to do with 4 year olds we sound out letters and words but need something different to keep their attention any help gratefully recieved

have you tried playing buried treasure? write some simple words and sounds on card and bury them in a box of sand, the children take turns in discovering and reading the words. Also crossing the river - (weather permitting) draw a chalk river on the floor - they can only cross it if they can sound out/blend and read the word.
