Using what you've learnt about over the time of your course or study programme consider
Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults: did you learn about positive relationships & how to develop or build them, the skills you need to communicate with children and how to adapt them,the differences between communicating with adults and children? Managing disagreements, the legislation that relates to confidentiality and data protection, and when confidentiality protocols must be breached.
Schools as organisations: did you find out about the structure and different types of schools in the UK? that early years children have an entitlement to attend a setting? Did you discover how your school is organised from governnors to its support staff and now know what each professional's role and responsibility is? Would you say you learnt about you school's ethos, mission aims and values? Did you learn about the legislation that affects schools and how every school is required to have policies and procedures in place and that they need to be developed & updated? Who you look at the role of school's in national policy and the other organisations working with children & young people?
understanding child and young people development: during your course did you look at the expected pattern of development of children from 0-19? the different areas of development and what that means for children's ages? Did you look at personal factors and how development is influenced by them? What theories of learning did you cover and the names of those theorists? Would you say you now how to monitor children's development now and what interventions should happen if development isn't taking place as expected? Did you learn about speech, language and communication and the importance of early intervention, the different professionals involved with that? Did you plan any activities to support SLC? How did learning about transitions go and the effect of positive relationships during those times?
Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people: Would you say you now know the legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding well-being in your school? Could you explain how child protection is part of the wider concept of safeguarding? Did you learn about serious case reviews and how sharing information informs practice? What about working in partnership with other organisations and knowing the role and responsibilities of those involved when a child or young person has been abused or harmed? Would you say you understand the importance of safety and protection in the setting now? What whistleblowing is and how to report concerns about poor practice. Could you now recognise the signs, symptoms, indicators and behaviours of children that might cause you concern? What did you learn about bullying? resilience? what it means to empower children so they can make positive & informed choices? ON your course did you look at eSafety, the risks and possible consequences of being online?
