Hi,

Care routines are a good way of getting babies and children in to the way of eventually becoming independent. These routines are repeated so frequently when children are young, they are an important part of the overally experience of life and their knowledge of interacting with adults. As a practitioner you must be attend childrens care needs sensitively.

It is fantastic time to have one on one time with the baby or child. If you are feeding a baby it is a golden opportunity to talk to him/her or sing, they love the contact

Let the childre know they are cared for and respected this can be done by attending to their needs at the child's pace and by using respectful, affectionate touch, speech and gestures.

Use the experience as a learning opportunity. For example, it is never too soon to talk with babies and children about care routines. While washing hands for instance you can say 'we'll rub some soap in to make your hands nice and clean'.

Encourage independence, children will eventually take responsibility for all their own care needs. It is your role as a practitioner to encourage this

Hope this gives you some idea's, gud luk
