At my setting, the children played as firefighters. I set up the chairs 2 x10 for the children to sit on as if they were in a fire engine.

I stood at the front and held a toy to my ear, pretending it was a phone and making an announcement to the children as to where the fire was. The children delighted in putting out the fire, pointing plastic sticks (to represent hoses) at wherever the fire was. Sometimes it was a door on fire, sometimes the fridge, sometimes an adult. I threw a blue cloth over whatever the children were pointing their 'hoses' at to represent the water. Then the children went back to their 'fire engine' to wait for the next announcement.

By the end of the game, the children had ownership of it, taking it in turns to decide where the fire was. It was great fun!
