Hi, a very warm welcome to the site.

If you have access to this course handbook - EYE level 3 textbook on amazon.co.uk pages 242+ will help.

Working with others means you are able to collaborate with them to ensure children achieve the best possible outcomes in all subject areas.

Early years workers will need to be able to work effectively with others so that they can support children's development in all areas, not just mathematics. The term 'others' relates to
  • colleagues and other professionals
  • parents
Colleagues
Effective communication is clearly the most important aspect of working with colleagues and other professionals. In a busy environment, there should be routines and systems in place to ensure that time is set aside to discuss planning, assessment and discussion of childrens progress in all areas. Meeting times should be set as part of the weekly cycle so that it does not need to be found as 'additional time'.

Parents and carers
You will need to ensure that you have clear times of communication with parents and carers in your setting so that they are aware of the mathematical skills that are being delivered to their children. This should include communication about all areas of the curriculum and what children are learning at a particular time. In this way parents and carers will be able to talk to their children at home about what they are doing and share their learning. Settings may have different ways of doing this. For example, some may send newsletters home or have noticeboards, while others may upload topic outlines to their websites so that parents and carers are able to look at them.

Consider what maths activities your setting provides the children, the planning that goes into making the activities happen and who is involved in the process and what information you share with parents about maths.

Hope this helps xx
