Use lots of praise and encouragement for young children -

4. if they have failed, praise them for trying, explain the more they try, the better they will be able to do something and soon they will be able to do it. Use yourself as an example in anything - say, it took you a long time to tie your shoelaces/knit/make a cake etc but you kept trying/practising until you could - and add you felt very pleased with yourself when you did.

5. Prediction - ask a child why we ask them not to run around inside - but that we don't mind if they run around outside?

All about appropriate space - ask them what might happen if they kept running around inside?

They and/or others may get hurt?

Think of anything and think it through these three steps and apply the same principles i.e.

sharing and playing with one another - left playing on their own (they may not want to, but are at an age where they are still learning to negoiate and share), feel sad and next time their 'friend' may not include them.

6.Children supporting one another - older children will support (scaffold) and help in lots of different ways.

You may see older children showing younger children how to do jigsaws, help them into dressing up clothes/shoes, 'read' stories to them.

Older children role-model by allowing the younger children to join in games, so they in turn can learn how to form relationships and also develop in their play - an older child/ren helping them by supporting them to form relationships and in play, and the child is acheiving their aim in doing so.
