Explain why it is important to work with a child or young person to ensure they develop strategies to protect themselves and to make decisions about safety

it develops their ability to be self reliant and independent. builds self confidence and resilience. encourages them to become more independent. gives them the foundations for assessing and dealing with risk in the future.
