Where you are seeing any inappropriate behaviour.
You will need to know the underlying reason first -
has the child had a change to their life - new baby, new home, divorce?
What behaviour are they displaying -
emotional - wetting themselves? - has just moved home.
physical -- hitting out at others?
Then your setting will decide on a course of action (with your manager and Senco) to see what steps you are going to take -
i.e. wetting themselves - give lots of positive attention and reassurance, take them to the toilet before their 'waiting' limit, praise them. If they have an accident, reassure them that it was an accident and doesn't matter, you have plenty of spare clothes etc. Use a sticker when praising when they go to the toilet but perhaps give them one for trying anyway - if that helps the child to feel good about themselves.
Speak to the parent sensivitely, they maybe aware that the move has unsettled them and you can both work together.
Monitor and record, but if the problem is not resolved or considered serious, you then take the next course of action - your manager and senco will help you and you will also look at the setting's policies and procedures and include the parent if it is appropiate.
If you believe a child's displayed behaviour may be linked to sexual abuse, you must report it to you manager and she will follow the appropriate procedures and will not speak to a parent in this particular instance.
