have pictures posters similar to a time line to show routine...or activities

plenty of books, posters, tapes etc in the childs 1st language

get the parent/carer to give you a list of a few important words to help you understand, and use them..........but always follow with the english words

use makaton/ sign language alongside speech

we have just had to do this for a child with english as a 2nd language

hope this helps
