Default 1.7 making a inclusive setting...

can anyone help me with this question i have been going over it and over it and still dont seem to underestand...

For each area, give 2 examples of how you will make your setting inclusive:

The environment
Things you do with children
Resources and equipment
Planning and care
Interaction between people
Your approach to life.

thanks

Hi, the definition for inclusive practice given on page 410 of this level 3 handbook is 'The process of ensuring the equality of learning opportunities for all children and young people'

Page 172 (search inside the amazon book preview for the words 'adult supervision needed') helps you examine this by suggesting questions you can ask of yourself and by observing the setting eg.
  • are children safe?
  • how much adult supervision is needed
  • are resources age and stage appropriate
  • are resources and activities of interest to the children
  • is there enough space
  • is there sufficient quantity
  • is there a balance of resources
  • how cost effective are the resources
Page 30 explores how taking exercise is essential so consider how your setting uses it's outdoor and indoor space for whole body activity for the youngest to eldest and for all abilities eg. yoga, dance, climbing, running, digging

How will you make your setting more inclusive?

The environment: could you watch how inside and outside space is being used? Check if children can all reach the different resources?

Things you do with children: share information about different interests, celebrations, recognise and challenge discrimination?

Resources and equipment: variety of books for a specific age group? dressing up clothes that all children can access?

Planning and care: make sure plans include all children eg. menus, toileting, tooth care?

Interaction between people
: listen carefully to what others say so you can hear and understand what's being said?

Your approach to life: (page 353) respect other cultures because you see the value in a diverse world? take time to learn about disability, illness and impairment and share new information in positive ways?

The Equality Act 2010

Hope this has helped a little, best wishes
