What happened to our old TV ...

Ever wondered what happens to old appliances, tvs, washing machines, videos & DVDs once you've said good bye to them ?

The DTS - Distributor Takeback Scheme is a system set up in the UK to help distributors of Electrical goods and Electronic Equipment (the EEE bit !!) comply with the new WEEE directive:

Recycle-More.co.uk is a website commissioned by Valpak and has a very informative introduction to WEEE and how it operates - Introduction to Waste Electrical and Electronic equipment

~~~~~~~~~~
Distributors have to contact a Producer - Producer Compliance scheme in order to fulfil their recycling commitment and pass on items they have collected from their customers.
The Producer then recycles the item .. removing any dangerous materials/substances and contacts an authorised treatment facility .. the raw materials are then put back into the maufacturing and production 'cycle ..
Use this network guide to build a continuous cycle chart for the children, so that they can see the steps electrical goods take from buying them in a shop - to appreciating how they can be replaced once they've broken !!
Old TV breaks ... Customer (Mum/Dad/Carer) takes it back to the Distributor (Shop).. Distributor drops it off with a Producer .. Producer strips and makes it safe .. then contacts an Authorised Treatment Facility .. who squashes the metal and sends it back to a manufacturer/Producer to build new things - finalising the recycling process ... The Producer then sends the new item back to the distributor who in turn sells it again in their shops easy huh lol
Fab video (flash) introduction to one companys recycling commitment in the USA .. Electronic recyclers - California lol .. refresh the page & play it again .. I think theres about 6 different flash player clips on there !!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please appreciate this is a very basic overview of the system .. networks, operational procedure may vary .. post & let us know how you do things ..
