Help SOS Play and Outdoor Play

Hi I am on my last unit for Level 2 and I am stuck on the questions.

Describe the different types of play?
How are these planned for within the EYFS Framework
Why is play-based learning so important for children?
Why is it important to have adult and child initiated activities, what are the benefits of both?
Why is it important to allow children to take risks for themselves in play?
What will this promote in their development?
What effect will a lack of play have on a child's learning?
What is the importance of outdoor play and experience activities in the natural outdoor environment?
Why is it important for children's health and well being?

If anyone could help I would be so grateful
Emma

Hi, so with the adult and child initatied activites- its important to have these because as an adult working with them we know where their gaps are, what they may be low on, and we know where it is they should be so we can plan around this for a professional side of things. However child initiated is very important, ofsted are very keen on this. Children choosing what they would like to play with, and expanding on this is important as it shows the independence of a child and is also helpful to you as a practitioner to see what it is they enjoy and can help you to plan for them.

It is important to allow them to take risks - this is a big thing too, its all about risk and challenge. The children should have the right to take these risks in a safe and suitable way, taking risks is apart of childrens lives what helps them become more independent and making their own judgement and choices, also shows the children how confident they are at doing something and whether they know to practice or not doing it again until they feel more ready too. If they take the risk and hurt themself (obviously not too majorly) then that is okay, they know what to expect and can either do it again in a different way or leave it for now.

Play based learning is so important because as the age they are they will learn through play, play is a big part of their life at this point and they will spend most of their time playing. Children learn so much just through play and its important that they have this opportunity, not only to help social skills but to also this is good for independence and not being around family all the time - this is big for when it comes to going to school, if a child is too attached to their parent they will struggle going to school for 6 hours or longer each day without them there. Playing is their way of learning and as time goes on you will see how much that child has changed.

Hope this helps x
