If you are applying for a position in a school, they usually have application forms you can download from the net or you can ring up the school/setting for one to be sent. They list the criteria they are looking for to fill the post.
Most places have 'uniform/standard' application forms, so that each candidate is treated equally.
I know if I am placing an advert, I ask them to fill in a standard application form, so I can compare what everyone has to offer on an equal footing - a point scoring system if you like - but other factors come into it.
I always ask for NVQ3 with Maths and English. Having said that I am willing to train them to the right level if I feel the candidate is suitable and willing to train.
I always check their results as I had one candidate (who seemed too good to be true) and did not have the qualifications she claimed. Lying is not a good trait/start - especially in an interview.
We are all tightening up our procedures to make sure we have suitable people. If you really want the job and feel you have much to offer, then write, you have nothing to lose. If they feel you are the right candidate, they should be willing to train you.
