Focussed attention is one to one time between a child and a practitioner. It is a child spending time with an adult who they like and trust, focussed time might be playing a game, actively listening to the child or chatting about day to day things, this individual attention makes a child feel valued and important as well as cared for and can help them develop a sense of identity. During focussed time the adult may have the opportunity to show that they are interested in what the child is doing, empathise with the child or encourage and praise the child all of which adds value and self worth to the child
