Default Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (NCFE)

Hi all,

I'm on the unit that covers equality, diversity & inclusion but am struggling with the reflective records as I don't come across having to deal with this area every session.
I have managed 3 records that covered helping non-verbal children (we are a school that has a specialist speech & language unit) and also helping a child who doesn't speak English feel able to participate but now I am stuck!

I'm was thinking of writing about a boy we have who struggles with playing with others, he often sits on his own watching but not joining in so I often sit with him and have a chat with him and try to encourage him. Is that ok?

Does anyone have any ideas of what else I could include, just in case I've missed something obvious?! My mind is blank! I don't want to have to wait weeks until another situation arises to be able to submit my assignments.

Thank you in advance for any assistance

K x

Hi a warm welcome to the site. I've a feeling you practice this every day so almost certainly come across it but maybe not recognised it as much as you should be proud of.

Use the setting's policies and procedures to draw knowledge, and look at how you've possibly, already included the diversity of culture, second languages, parent partnerships? expected child development and intervention to ensure equal opportunity to belong, participate and learn. I'd consider the child who's observing life around them a great opportunity for a reflective account.

Maybe look at how inclusive and welcoming the setting/placement is, the ways children are greeted in the morning, activities where names are shared & celebrated. There are some points on page 131 of the level 3 handbook you may find useful along with information across other pages if you use the index for equality diversity & inclusion

Best wishes with your study xx

Thank you for your reply Ruthie.
I think you are right, I'm not recognising it! I have a student placement 2 mornings and 1 afternoon a week. Day off today so I am going to take some time to knuckle down.
