The NASEN guide is also helpful

for 2.3 you need to ask your setting what happens about identifying children's additional needs and if you can have copy of any policy and procedure. The arrangements may be frequent planned observations that monitor development in different areas, how that informaion is assessed and matched to expected development and what to do if you or parents ever have concerns.

2.4 some dilemmas may involve:

• Lack of parental involvement or support
• Lack of support available from outside agencies
• Difference of opinion amongst colleagues or professionals
• Lack of support from your colleagues
• Lack of knowledge and training for the practitioner and their colleagues

Family members or parents can worry about stigma attached to educational needs, feeling 'things will come right by themselves', in the same way they can also be dismissive of any concerns professionals may have.
