Hi, the Person Centred Approach is the work of Dct Carl Rogers an American psychologist who used his ideas to understand human personalities and relationships.

The Child-centred approach ib

Page 386 of the CYPW handbook:

It is important when working with children or young people that we see each of them as a whole person rather than children with problems. It is also important that everything we do is linked to their needs, strengths and interests rather than our own organisational needs. This approach to working with children is what is meant by the term child-centered. In addition there are some key principles that should underpin our work with all children, but which are essential when working with children with disabilities or those with learning difficulties.

Respect
Interest
Empathy
Empowerment

Key Terms
Child-Centered:
a way of working that focuses on the needs of the child.

Page 190 of the STL handbook utilises the person and child centered approach to offer personalised learning

A personalised approach requires teachers and teaching assistants to take into account the different academic levels of acheivement, but also children's individual needs and interests. Individual targets or learning objectives will support children to reach their full potential. Planning must take into consideration ways that children learn. Planning for the needs of each individual child may seem daunting, but children of similar abilities and interest can be grouped together and work towards the same targets.

The most useful reading is on pages 342 of this EYE handbook

Which explains how early years practitioners need to know ..

what I can do do
how I learn
what I enjoy
who I am
who my special people are

about each individual child that they are planning and caring for. Search inside the preview for effective planning

There's also good reading in this publication from Tower Hamlets.gov.uk - Person Centred planning with children and young people
