Default help/advice needed

Hi all I am planning an activity with a group of children in foundation stage ages 4/5 yrs old. My aim is healthy eating ( fruit) linked to handas surprise. My activity will be to read the book of handas surprise and then talk about different types of fruit and taste some fruit using all senses. For creativity I was planning on doing fruit kebabs but need another way of making these as I don't think using skewers will be a good idea due the the sharp point and the children only being 4/5 yrs old. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT i CAN USE INSTEAD?

I also need to do a risk assessment which will consit of checking area wiping down the table before use was fruit wash hands before touching fruit knife only an adult will use a knife to cut the fruit or will it be best to have this allready prepared into chunks ready for tasting?

Also need to write an activity plan which basicaly is to write how I will carry out the activity?

This has to promote all areas of learning, is there anyother way of getting creativity in thier without making fruit kebabs?

Please can someone help asap ?

Hi,
What about fruit smoothies, I did an activity with my children same age as yours and I gave them a variety of different fruits along with yogurt or orange juice/apple juice to blend the fruit with. The children loved it and most of them even drank thier own smoothie (obviously you do the blending) hope this helps x

Hi
we have done fruit kebabs before using straws instead of skewers.
What about using bowls as baskets and asking the children if they could arrange their fruit in the basket and then ask the children to talk about why they put certain fruits together e.g. was it because the colours were nice? was it because this is the fruit that they like? was there a pattern? are there any shapes? etc. As we are always saying each child are individuals and the way they create food is very individual.
Depending on what fruit you are using we do use plastic knives with 3-4 year olds, so that they get the responsibility but not the risk of harming themselves.

just an idea don't know if it will work

Lynne
