This page on Ireland's HSE website is good reading for poisoning:
http://www.hse.ie/eng/health/az/P/Po...poisoning.html information has been adapted from NHS.uk
The
9th St. John ambulance First Aid handbook pg 207 states types of poisoning as: swallowed - absorbed - inhaled - splashed in the eye - injected through the skin.
Chemicals - eg. that are found in cleaners, pesticides, solvents
Medicines and drugs
Alcohol
Food
Carbon monoxide
Snake bites
Plants and berries
All handling, storage and reporting procedures of products that contain dangerous substances fall within COSHH guidelines.
http://www.hse.gov.uk/coshh/basics/substance.htm
'This requires employers to keep a record of substances that could be hazardous to health, where they will be kept, how they will be used and for what purpose, as well as what to do if they contact skin, eyes or are ingested. In a nursery setting, this mainly applies to cleaning chemicals and those used for general maintenance' source
