Early intervention is crucial in supporting children and families who need extra support in all areas. This may focus on the child alone or the whole family, depending on the circumstances. Early intervention works through resolving problems before they lead to secondary problems. A child suffering from learning difficulties will need support and extra help, without this the child will feel frustrated which will result in behavioural problems, if ignored the cycle will continue and may lead to exclusion/ leaving school early. This will probably have negative affect on the child’s future and seeking employment, the adult may then turn to crime and the result will be prison.
Therefore early intervention is crucial to ensure children have the best possible outcomes and life chances.

Parents and carers can engage in the strategic planning of services by working together with practitioners and other professional’s to agree on a plan of action to support the child’s development, consenting to observations, assessments and meetings. Carers can attend courses; parents may need to attend parenting classes. Parents need to be given the same information as everyone else but in simple terms. Professionals can seem very powerful and intimidating without intending to be, they need to ensure they are pleasant and approachable.
Whilst working with multi-agencies parents may feel excluded, sharing information and asking the parents opinions will help carers to be engaged, whist planning meetings the carers need to considered and ensure that they can participate. Lead professional’s need to monitor and evaluate parent’s partnerships and find ways of improving, feedback questionnaires may help.
Sharing success will help the family to feel a sense of achievement.
