401.1 1 initiate relationships with colleagues that help them adust to and devlope their roles and responsibilities.

Write an account of your induction procedure has been ringed round in the booklet. Outline the relevant legal requirements and procedures covering confidentiality and disclosure of information. (M746)

List the types of information that should be treated, confidentially stating who you can and cannot share this information with (M747 )

To help colleagues adjust and develop their roles we put the following in place.
• Induction at commencement of employment/placement
• 1-1 meetings 1/12 and additional if required
• Appraisals 3/12 6/12
• Team meetings
• Open door policy- discuss with Supervisor any concerns at any time.
• Shadow sessions
• Observation sessions
• Additional training using outside support
• In house training sessions
• Share good practice
• Planning sessions

No information should be passed on or disclosed to another party without written consent from the parent/carer; unless it is relating to a child protection issue that may endanger the child- this should then be referred to the settings Child Protection Officer. Our setting has a standard form where we ask parent/carer permission to discuss their child with the School Nursery Teacher/Health Visitors/SALT and this is discussed and signed at the first settling in session; however through promoting good practice we would also still ask parent’s permission before discussing a child to ensure good working relationships. This ensures trust on both sides.

Anti-discriminatory practice is the practice of treating everyone fairly, and not discriminating or treating them differently because of their gender/culture/ethnicity/age/race/religion or abilities.
The anti-discriminatory practice should cover all not just children.
Resources and displays should be varied and reflect the multi cultural society of today. There should be puzzles and dolls and dressing up items clearly showing people from around the world. All celebrations and festivals should be valued equally and built into the planning of the setting. Books used in the setting should be in a variety of languages spoken or used either in the setting or in the children’s home.
