Help SOS Unit 317: Explain the legal and statutory entitlements of children and young people in care

Hi,

I am wondering whether anybody could help me on the following question:

2.1 Explain the legal and statutory entitlements of children and young people in care - Entitlements will include those relating to:
Entitlement Explanation
Visits
Allowances
Contact with family members
Preparation for reviews
Advocacy
Independent visitors

I have spent so many days looking through google trying to find the relevant information and have hit a complete wall, could somebody please point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, a warm welcome to the site. As yet there still isn't a handbook dedicated to this course so you will be reliant on searches and even more so on the support materials given to you by your tutor/course provider.

The legislation for looked after children is identified on the NSPCC site - children in care and a list of documents relating to looked after children on gov.uk

Visits page 99+ of the care planning, placement and case review

Allowances -
the information in theFamily and Friends Care publication has additional information about allowances and financial support. Check your local authority's website as it's possible that they've published information explaining the right and entitlement of children in their care eg. Lancashire's explanation of allowances

Contact with family members - page 42+

Preparation for reviews -
pages 115+

Advocacy -
guidance on statutory advocacy services on gov.uk under the Children act 1989

Independent visitors
page 106+

Children and young people's continuing care national framework on gov.uk

Children leaving care on childrens commissioner.gov.uk and Stay Put scheme on gov.uk

Children in care on Citizen's advice

Hope this helps a little, please do contact your course provider and ask them about the recommended sources so you can research confidently xx
