Hi, consider something you feel most private or sensitive about and the reasons why you might be reluctant to share those experiences and the words that describe them.

Fear of not being believed, 'rocking a boat' concerned about retaliation, causing 'bad feelings' between colleagues/a friend, revenge, or being targeted online, being judged, accused or blamed, being discriminated against, made an example of, sense of hopelessness in that nothing could be done even if information or a complaint was made. Being teased, ridiculed and taunted, embarrassment or guilt.

Uncertainty at how to make a complaint, who to report it to, what the process involves and the potential for a positive outcome.

All these feelings and emotions could prevent someone from stepping forward.

Ask for a copy of your setting's complaints and grievances policy & the procedures so you know exactly how it works and can support individuals who need to access it.
