Default How can you ensure communication is suitable for the stage of development? Help please

Hello!

Nearly finished my CCS Ofsted Registration, but I am struggling on this question.
It needs to be a minimum of 300 words but all my questions so far have been at least 600+.
With my job as a nanny i haven't had any experience so far of working with children with disabilities. This could be an example.

When communicating with children you need to ensure that your communication is suitable for their stage of development. How can you do this? Please give examples in your answer

Thank you in advance

Zoe

Hi, you could maybe use your knowledge of child development to adapt the complexity of language - verbal and body ie. the way you'd communicate and use eye contact with a 6 month old baby would differ to the facila expression, words, tone, pitch and rhythm that you might use when talking ordinarily with a toddler or with a five year old or an 8 year old..

You might lower yourself bodily to meet the eye level of a young child or stand if in conversation with an older child.

The resources you provide can relate to a child's age and stage of development eg. books and their ratio of text, text size and images, board books, soft books, plastic waterproof books, paper & hardback, press button books, audio.

Barriers present difficulties that need overcoming where english is a not a first language, communication would be considered quite carefully so that english is learnt effectively - language immersion theory

Professional reflection also ensures communication is suitable - did children understand what was being said or gestured, were everyone's words spoken slowly or fast enough, what words or body language were used ..

Hth xx
