Outdoor play ?

How much time do you and your group spend outdoors?

Is it a scheduled/planned for activity or free play session?

Having briefly experienced EY in Denmark I was greatly surprised at the amount of time and importance outdoor play had over there

every day from 15 mins to 1 hour or longer in summer can be all session

winter tends to be free play, lots of running climbing and role play, summer more planned with all activities taken outside, book corner, mark making, water, construction etc etc.

Have a musd pit outside to use for play rather than sand!

we had an all weather canopy erected in August last year (2006) It is huge!! It is divided into 4 areas each with a different coloured flooring. It is open on 3 sides with a grassy area and working garden at one end and is surrounded by 3 foot fencing which seperates us from the main playground area but we do have access to it via a gate. It is used as an outside class room mirroring everything we do inside. If you are on outside duty you can spend anything up to 3 1/2 hours a day during the winter and longer during the summer.
