Hi
I am on 2.4 explain the importance of statements of SEN and how these impact on provision for individual children within the setting.

I didn't think that Pre-schools required statements only when they reach primary school age? I understand the importance and impact having them is for children but just wanted to get my facts right.
Help please
Anyone else started this unit yet?
Thx x

Hi

I work in apre school and in a way you are right you don't need a statement for children you work with but the child will need it in place by the time they start school. A statement takes 26 weeks to get sometimes longer so you can see how important it is for us as practitioners to understand and help and support a child and parent whilst they are going through a statement process.
We still have to do an educational report to help the child get a statement, i have done a few and they are long winded and not easy to do.

A child in need, needs a statement so that they get the help straight away at school.

Look at the sen code of practice and this will help you obtain the info that you need.
If you havent got one put a reply on here and i will find you the link.
Hope this helps.

Lynne
