Nvq3 Not Enough!!!!

Anyone got any advice for a friend of mine?

She has just had her Ofsted inspection for childminding. The inspector told her that because she has got an NVQ3 in Early Years care and Education, she couldn't see why she would have to take the 6 week ICP course ran by the council. After all - an NVQ3 is a 2 year, in depth, vocational qualification that includes being observed looking after children.

However, a lady from the Early Years team at the local council has insisted she has to do the 6 week ICP course.

I have done both courses! (But I did the ICP BEFORE I did my NVQ3!) and NO DISRESPECT, but you come out knowing a heck of a lot more after the two year course than you do after the 6 weeks one!

ANYONE KNOW THE OFFICIAL ANSWER?

I was a childminder before this course was intro. If the course has lots of valuable info about childminding then yes i would say she needs to do it.but if not then no it is not needed.

In my area of the country you had to complete the ICP before you would be given any application forms to be a childminder, we had an Early Years Graduate on the course so perhaps there is a similar policy in your friends area? PS how did you get on with NVQ as a Childminder? I've just signed up for it and now am feeling very nervous about it!
