Hi
At times, all practitioners are asked to supply other adults with information. For instance, colleague often share information about children, particularly at times of transition (from room to room or if the child is starting school etc). or a parent may ask further information about any events in the nursery/school. Whatever the request, practitioners should be clear about what is being asked for and when the information is needed by. They must then be careful to give accurate information within the agreed timescales, as long as doing so will not compromise confidentiality.
An example may be that a parent/carer has asked you for a telephone number of another parent/carer because they want to discuss something. As a practitioner you would explain to the parent/carer that you cant give confidential info out due to policies and procedures of the setting as well as Data protection. If it was an emergency then you could take the first parents tel no (tell them you will ring the second parent) then you ring the second parent yourself and pass the info on then it is up to that parent if they want to ring the other person back.
This could be done as a witness testimony, observation or a professional discussion.
I hope this helps a little
