It means recognising how children behave when they do not understand what is being said to them, eg if they can not hear properly or if they are EAL children they may display frustration

or if they cannot make themselves understood by others, eg if they have speach delay or are EAL children they may show a reluctance to speak, their self confidence and self esteem will suffer and their social skills will not develop properly

and how you respond to such behaviours, eg sensitively trying to help the child overcome the communication difficulty eg by using sign language, visual clues and actions, lip reading, buddying up children who speak the same language etc.....

babies and younger children who don't have the ablility to talk yet will get frustrated which will be shown by crying and temper tamtrams first thing is to calm the child down then try getting them to point at what they want or point yourself some babie and children can use baby sign or makaton try to get them to use these if the child knows them.

this is for 0-3years hope it helps a little T
