including their observations from home in the learning journey, giving out cameras for the family to use at home, encouraging parents to come in and share a formal observation which you then record together, using language in formal obs which dont exclude parents, using home language, so many ways when you let go of the control!

We invite parents in for 'stay and chat' when they can look through their child's learning record with us and help to set 'next steps'.
We have pages for parents to complete when their child first starts to give us some idea about what makes the child 'tick'
We have a wow wall for parents and keypersons to contribute special moments in development.
We have home diaries for parents to write in - there's loads to choose from

well we have only one language if you don't count the strange local dialect! But I think if you have a multi-language society it would be great to have the range of languages displayed, with perhaps a translation too on the bottom, so that others could read it. We use the wows we take down in the childre's special files and cross reference them with the stepping stones etc
