Default Open Uni

Is there anyone one here doing the Open Uni E123 and E124 leading onto the Degree in Early Years?

I start this in Oct and feel it fits in better with my work priorties. The E123 and E124 gives you a level 4 leading on to the Degree in Early Years.

Sarah

Hi Sarah I have just completed my level 4 and dont know what to do next. I would like to go on and do the degree but dont really know where I fit in. The E123 and E124 you say are similiar ti the level 4 so where do I start? Help from Emma J.

I did a different course through the OU. It was a bit difficult to keep motivated to do the work without having the regular classroom sessions but I found it a fantastic way to gain qualifications & still work. They are good at making sure you have all you need to complete the work & there is a tutor assigned to you who you can ask for support.

Best way is to contact your local college or University and ask about Foundation degree.. they will help you and let you know if your current qualification equates to the degree or can be used as part of one.. not all can..

I've just completed e123 and e124 (don't get the result until December) and I really enjoyed it. I found the assignments difficult because I was having reflect on my work in a way I've not really done before, however I put the effort in and got very good marks for my TMA's (tutor marked assignments).
You need to be able to manage your time very well. As you progress through the activities you will find a few that are don't apply to you/your setting so you can skip them. But don't try skipping too many as they all help focus your mind onto what the assignments ask. If you have any problem your tutor should be the first point of contact. The online forum can help but can sometimes give confusing answers. Tutorials are very helpful, so get there if you can. Even if you don't get there your tutor should give you the tutorial notes via the tutor group forum.
When you do your assignments make sure you make references to the course material. For example the first assignment comes at the end of study topic 4 (if I remember correctly). I included references to all 4 study topics covered and to a couple of the chapters in the reader. If you need to save on word count a good way is to compare your setting to a case study. Try not to use direct quotes as they can often eat up your wordcount.
Final words of wisdom...if you haven't got it ask your tutor for the combined calendar for those studying both E123 and E124. It advises you to do all the study topics up to a TMA for one course, do the TMA then do the study topics and TMA for the other course. This works really well, however if you find you get stuck doing the TMA, make a start on the work for the next part of the calendar. It stops you from going round and round in circles, and if you are lucky you can get a bit ahead of schedule so if you've got a holiday booked it's not such a big deal.

Above all good luck
