The NVQ & the CACHE are two seperate qualifications. You can do one, the other or both. CACHE assignments are graded & depending which level you are doing depends how they are graded.
CACHE is written based assignments & to complete it you do not neccessarily need to be working in the sector. The NVQ is work based so you should be working in a suitable job for the qualification.
If you are doing CACHE at the same time as doing the NVQ the assignments you write up can be used to cross reference to your NVQ knowledge (...saves writting the same thing twice).
The NVQ is not graded as it is mainly work based & you are proving yourself in practice. If your assessor feels you have done enough to cover any criteria it will be signed off as competent. If your assessor is not completely happy she/he should ask you to do something extra to complete it.
