what I had to do was 8 observations (ended up with 8 time sampling ones) and then explained how that these were my formative assessment of the child and then based my summartive assessment on them saying that I was using them to do activities to extend my childs abilities (particualy to gain the abilities/skills that I thought were difficult for the child ie interaction, attention span etc

x

look at your observation and pick an area of development, for example if your observation is of the child doing small world play your area of development might be physical-fine motor skills or cognative-imagination.

then look at the age of the child and pick out what the child did or didnt do in the obs i.e child a was able to hold the object using a pincer grasp

then look at the stages of development and say weather the child is in,above or below the "norm" for their age.

evaluate by saying how accurate you think the source of ages and stages are. say how the observation can be used-e.g it can be used to compare with past and future documents to measure progress etc write what you have leaned and recomendations for the future. then lastly say how more reasearch can be done. add quotes throughout, back your recomendations up with a theory.

if your doing observations for course do all of the above if not just do the bits in bold.
