Help SOS Wraparound and EYFS

Help! am having a major panic attack about the early years foundation stage.
I run an out of school club and wraparound in a nursery and infant school. Currently we don't implement the foundation stage because the children get it in school/ nursery.
Have spoken to our early years partnership advisor who said there is extra guidance coming out in September 2008! we're supposed to be implementing it from then and would like to get a head start now.
Is anyone else in the same boat or have any other wraparounds already begun implementing it
Am begining to feel it might be easier stacking shelves in the supermarket

PS hope this is in the right place

I have no idea what extra guidance is going to be published, but feel the same concern about implementation of the framework in wrap around care & shelf stacking as an attractive alternative ! (for Childminders as well !!)

What ofsted & dcfs need to know is, if the time spent on additional & extra paperwork is going to be worthwhile in comparrisson to the hours spent implementing it (or worrying about implementing it ) in the care provision .. that's where the workforce will suffer wages probably wouldn't even enter this equation !!

This news page from Ofsted asks for feedback on inspecting different areas of provision .. Wraparound care being one ~ Consultation closes February 1st 2008 (not long :muted:) if you let them know all your concerns and worries maybe they will be able to provide some feedback to DCSF that will eventually allow a more time manageable & reasonable format of data entry & application ?!!

Do you think there's going to be the opportunity to use & extend the Nursery and School's Eyfs to incorporate everything that you do ?

That could be an awful lot of liasing have you spoken to the Head & Nursery manager ?

Please keep us up on any news ...

Have spoken to nursery and they are as in the dark as we are about our role. They must cover all of the EYFS because we only get a few of the children so sections can't be left for us to cover as children who don't come to us will miss out. I already spend a fair amount of my time planning and preparing (no overtime money is forthcoming!) and have no idea were i will fit any more in. Liasing with school and nursery will be a hugh problem as they are free when we have children and vice versa. Cover would be horrendous to arrange for liason meetings we are already on a extremely tight budget. Have already responded to consultation wether it will change anything though, fingers crossed thanks for the support will keep you all posted.

Hi

I also provide wrap around service with in our group. We are registered for 26 children although i only take 24 the other 2 sessions are used for children who attend the setting with one to one support. With in the 24 places 8 of those are for children who are attending the local LEA Nursery unit, they come to us in the morning they have lunch with us (packed Lunch provided by parents), we then escort them into Afternoon Nursery. Like you we are supposed to liaise with the Nursery and work try to work along the same plans/topics that they are doing, but it isn't quite working out like that so we have just devised our own. We do try to meet occasionally. (possible twice per year) Lol For the first two years we had joint christmas concerts and sports day, teddy bears picnic etc, but it was so caotic that we abandoned it as we felt it was unsafe for our younger children that we care for.
Things are changing slightly instead of planning topics on what we want to give the children an awareness of , we follow the interests of the children, we have to be more observant and make regular notes on what the children are gaining from the activities on offer, this information is then transferred into their profile books, you have to have written proof of every thing that you do in groups these days, if your ever in doubt write a policy. Playgroups/Pre-Schools are not what they used to be when perhaps a group of parents would set up a group, all staff have to be highly qualified but naturally the rate of pay does not reflect this. We used to have 5 Pre-schools with in my home town and surrounding area due to all the new regulations groups can't cope and are now closing. Leaving a shortage of places therefore many children cannot access this service. But i wouldn't leave i like a challenge and enjoy my work or should i say playing

Hi
Its nice to see other people out their running wrap around service. I worked in an LEA nursery attached to school for 4 years. It was then decided that we would run wrap around service. so I was asked to take this on in September 2007. The wrap around is run in the same room as the LEA nursery but we are mean't to run alongside each other! Ha, Ha, LEA nursery runs on school rules, where wrap around runs on daycare standards. It's a nightmare, I've never worked on day care standards so I've got to write policies and procedures for everything as you will know. In a morning we have 26 children 13 lLEA and 13 Daycare which are NEG funded, some of the children then stay for lunch and we then have another 15 children in the afternoon, some funded some not. confused, well I am. Really getting bogged down with planning as I've been told I have to do two separate lots for morning and afternoon sessions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for all the support everyone
We are school run and school are so suppotive we very lucky.
We also tried following nursery topics but found children were getting bored. So now have our own topics, planning etc. We also so lucky to have our own room within school. We have no funded places so no hassell claiming funding.
Had a chat with school head yesterday she really put my mind at rest and assured me we only need to make minor changes to current practice to meet EYFS she feels we will not need to go into depth for ELG as the children get this is foundation 1 and 2 in school. Got loads of ideas now for altering planning observation etc.
Andy H let me know what you need help with (either here or through private message service). Will see what i can do my background is in out of school clubs so pretty ok with childcare standards hence the stress over EYFS.
Just got over one panic then found out this morning OFSTED are in next weds and thurs. We being "done" with school hence the notice. Not sure wether i prefer to know in advance or not!
