I'm confused How to promote anti-discriminatory practice and challenge discrimination?

Hello, wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction. I’m currently doing the unit on promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people and need to produce a 6 page PowerPoint on the following 2 questions:

2.4 Explain how to promote anti-discriminatory practice in work with children and young people and 2.5 Explain how to challenge discrimination

I’ve hit a wall and can’t think of anything to write. Any pointers gratefully received.

Thank you xxx

Hi, this slightly older thread will help with challenging discrimination - how to challenge discrimination in a way that promotes change. Consider which of those actions you feel you practice in the setting and ones you could adopt in the future.

Pages 128/9 of this EYE handbook looks at ways you can promote anti-discriminatory practice eg.
  • by working within the policies and procedures of the setting
  • valuing the child
  • developing and sustaining a child-centred approach
  • engaging actively with the family to appreciate the holistic/whole needs of the child
  • provide an inclusive environment which actively welcomes diversity
  • being a positive role model in promoting equality, diversity and inclusive practice
  • be able to recognise discrimination
  • know when how and why you need to challenge discrimination
  • engage in effective partnership working to enable the child to achieve a best outcome
If you use the look inside feature of the book search for the words 'roles responsibilities' and click to page 128

Hope this helps

xx
