ive just answered this question. I talked about using letters and sounds, and foundations of literacy use of sign language and symbols/labels around the setting. Book start, promoting literacy at home.

Hope this helps

Hi there, I am treasurer of my local preschool and have done voluntary work in my local school.

Letters and sounds - the school does this as standard practice every morning, they are banded into groups of ability and has so far improved childrens language and literacy skills
Sound work - getting children to copy sounds (we do this in preschool and is a start for the first phase of letters and sounds)
Alphabet and phonics
Allowing children time to read alone
Discussion
Reading stories linked to a theme
Rhymes and songs - use of words and expressions through this
Labelling
Letter magnets
Book start
Links to a local library - such as visits
Makaton - simple sign language designed for special needs and young children
EYFS - look at booklet to do with Language and literacy
Key skills 1- 4 in primary setting
Writing development
As I am in Wales we also do basic foundations of Welsh in Preschool using certain keywords

Hope this helps xx:rotfl:
