Lightbulb Video games as a form of play

Hi
I’m a playworker, currently doing a level 3 qualification. I’m sure a lot of you have seen children using (or trying to use) video game platforms e.g. Dsi, 3DS, PS vista or even a console at your setting-maybe your even a gamer yourself.

I was wandering; does anyone here see video game as a form of play? I understand video games are not traditional forms of play but seeing as they have only been around 40 years or so should they start to be integrated better in our profession?

Thanks :)
