level 2 jumping to level 4 in ccld?

Hi, is there anyone out there who is thinking about doing level 4, missing out level 3? if so what is your job discription as im not in a deputy os supervisor role and i'm wondering how to cover the staff management side of the course? All help greatly apreciated. Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the CCLD level four standards clearly state that you have to be in a supervisory/ managment role to be able to generate the evidence to complete this qualification.

As an NVQ assessor and trainer who delivers the level four qualification, I am shocked that this has even been suggested to you, as you should also have relevant level three qualifications and at least two years experiance at level 3

Any training provider who is considering putting you straight from the level 2 to the level 4 is setting you up to fail, the level four is a very in depth qualification which requires you to be carrying out policy and procedure changes and updates, carrying out staff appraisals, working with a variety of outside professionals and such, and can be the equivalent to the first year of a degree.

I would seriously consider carrying out the level 3 qualification before putting youself through the trauma of the level four, and getting some supervisory practice in.

I have just completed my level 4 and have just signed up for the A1 Award, I would like to get started answering the knowlegde spec do you know of any books or anywhere where I might find the answers! It would be really appreciated, I totally agree with you about jumping from the level 2 - 4 ?? These girls need to gain knowledge and experience before even thinking of a higher qualification I have only just completed my level 4 and I have been qualified for over 12 years and I am also in a managerial position

There is an assessor and verifier handbook, if you have a look at Amazon and type in assessor and verifier, it will bring up a few options. The one with the pink front cover looks like it is the latest edition (2008), i have the older one that was blue and green (2004), they are both written by the same people. Ebay might also be a good option (my favourite shop at the min!!)

Good luck with your assessor award, I am sure you will be a great asset to your colleagues with your level 4 knowledge!!

no way you should be doing 4 it is for managers. you need to build on your practice and reflect on your training and development. they re not tick charts they re for you to develop not pass. agree with nick the courses arent to tick off they are there for you to learn grow and reflect on it.

Thanks for all the advice. It was an assessor who suggested doing this as its being funded by traintogain. I've decided to go for my level 3 first so i can do it justice, not just get through it.

Well done you Linz, I know there is a lot of funding flying about at the minute, and with the big push to have a more upskilled staffing team, this might seem like a good idea, but you are doing the right thing by doing your 3 hun, honestly. The knowledge and experiance you will gain at level 3 will be so beneficial to you and your setting, and when you are ready, the level four will be too.

Have a look at awarding bodies websites ( i dont know if i am allowed to mention names on here) but there is one that you can look at the level four standards, and see the level of knowledge and understanding that is required of you. Try

Thanks for your advice Ive just ordered two books from amazon, I have recieved one of them it's great- NVQ Assessor for CCLD - Kerry Hill and Im waiting for NVQ Assessor Verifier and candidate handbook- Ross Ollen and Jenny Tucker, so Im ready to start! still waiting for my training centre to organize my assessor but im going to get a head start on the knowledge spec, thanks again

Ive got both those books and they are good, my assessor is coming today for the first time I have also just completed level 4 and iam starting the A1
