That'll be your setting's policies and procedures - how do you ensure anyone and everyone on your premises is safe and protected?
Look at the above and you may say that you risk assess everywhere (outside and inside) before you start to ensure everything is safe i.e. all your fire doors are kept clear and unobstructed. You hold regular fire drills so everyone knows the procedure that is to be carried out in the event of a fire. You have a visitors book as well as a register so everyone on the premises can be accounted for. You could say you have a fire alarm to ring or whistle placed (only accessible to adults) to raise the alarm. How you record the outcome of the fire drill and keep these records to show you are carrying out procedures in conjuntion with your setting's policies.
How is this all kept current? - by reviewing your policies and procedures on an annual basis or sooner if applicable. You also keep up to date with current legislation by way of information from the county, your advisory teacher or looking up current publications on teachernet , watching and reading the local and national news etc.
Lots of settings have been updating their policy and procedures on staff taking mobile phones to work after the Vanessa George case.
How and what do your setting do? some settings have asked they be locked away in an office or safe, some allow them to keep them in view of everyone if the setting is in one room. It's entirely up to the setting how they go about their policies and procedures as they are all individual and will have different methods that suits their setting.
I hope this gets you started on the other topics you have mentioned - such as substances = what you use, where you store it and why?
