Hi, for this one I put that if you need to tell a child that they can't do something, you must explain why in an age appropriate manner i.e. 'It's not safe because...'
I also said to negotiate with them: 'If you finish this piece of work, we can play a game together', or something else that will motivate them to get it done.
You could give them a choice of 2 or 3 things. It could be something as simple as asking them if they'd like milk or water to drink, that way you still have a say in what they can have, but they get to make the final decision.
