:reading:hi, been trudging through the www to find theorists to backup my argument
for this knowledge question
not even sure if Ive answered it right
question is
how do you know if children develop at widely different rates , but broadly the same sequence ( back up your argument with quotes with theorists)
my answer is severely lacking so far, not even sure Ive got to grips with what the question means !lol

"All children develop at different rates. This is because they come from unique different starts in life, which will inevitably affect their holistic development. Each child has different strengths and tendencies which will affect their pace of development. Saying this, children develop to the same genetic sequence, which is embedded in them. This has been documented many, many times for example;"

It may help you if you give an example of a child's development broadly following the same sequence such as language (taken from Mary D.Sheridan 'From Birth to Five Years' :

0-2 months discomfort cries 2-4 months Pleasure sounds
4-9 months babbling 9-12 months vocalisations with meaning
12-15 months First words 18-30 months word phrases
2 1/2 - 4 years developing syntax 4-6 years adult syntax

The above sequence is how children progess through language development (broadly speaking) but this doesn't always happen or go smoothly for every child does it?
You could write about why every child does not follow this pattern at the ages that are stated above. You can then bring in your theorists and theories to back up your argument i.e. you may want to write about their environment, or whether a child has a secure attachment to the main carer etc and link what you may have seen or even put into practice in your setting and link it into theory and theorists by name.
