Hello, I'm in Scotland , and used this to start off..

‘Protecting children – A shared responsibility’ is Scottish Government document, which gives guidance to education authorities, schools and teachers regarding protecting children from abuse.Professionals need to work together in child protection to share information; support families, improve parenting, and provide information and services about health and education to families. In Glasgow, the purpose of the Child Protection Committee is to ensure local agencies work together to protect children. This is not just about individual cases of abuse, but about developing an environment where children’s needs come first and this happens through working with and consulting children, developing supportive relationships with parents /carers and where staff have regular access to up to date training to improve their knowledge, skills and awareness. There is a list on the website of useful resources: -If you don't feel safe and don't know what to do... - Fold Away card for children and young people General Information for people worried about child abuse - Glasgow Child Protection Committee Leaflet Information for Parents - Child Protection During Pregnancy - Glasgow Child Protection Committee Leaflet Information for Parents - What Happens Next - Glasgow Child Protection Committee Leaflet Protecting children: information for service providers - Glasgow Child Protection Committee Leaflet Information for young people who are looked after by Glasgow City Council - Part One Information for young people who are looked after by Glasgow City Council - Part Two Information for young people who are looked after by Glasgow City Council - Part Three Promoting Independence and Choice through Direct Payments for Care) Responsibilities and rights of parents Services for carers What you need to know if your child is looked after away from home Your child on a child assessment order....

Excellent reply above thank you a warm welcome to the site.

Smudge do you list any organisations/individuals/publications you keep upto date with or that you rely on to keep you up to date?

It looks like this is asking for you to remember or to know an occasion where you can say 'Yes, we do that as well .. knowing the reasons why you do it maybe - supporting policy & procedure.

Documents, papers, research, news articles all have the potential to influence & support policy and procedure, the depth of which may vary but could all be incredibly useful. The term Childrens health, Safety and Well being returns some good results in itself if it helps prompt practice.

Within the forums these are a few of the resources I find useful:
http://www.scie.org.uk/children/index.asp
http://www.communitycare.co.uk
http://publications.teachernet.gov.uk/ - search facility & newsletter subscription.
A LSCB - search
A LA Early years & Childcare
A local PCT or other NHS website
http://www.nfer.ac.uk/
Safeguarding definition: http://www.safeguardingchildren.org.uk/
Healthy eating - Google search, news and images
Wales NHS Direct
Parents as Partners google search not as easy to find information, but rewarding in that you can come across other highly relevant leads, with time on your side.
Other forums, industry specific/social networking places where information shared leads on to you recognising something relevant to your own setting/position - information that in turn leads on to you identifying a creditable source and resource which may then change/support policy and procedure.
http://www.brake.org.uk - information that can support policy and procedure on planning for road safety awareness.
HSE - Education http://www.hse.gov.uk/services/education/index.htm
HSE - Risk & assesment http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/fivesteps.htm
http://www.defra.gov.uk/
Information on abuse, neglect, harm, drowning, contamination

I miss the ECM, Surestart & Early Support sites, pages & resources, using them daily until they were sucked back in by the dcsf lol .. maybe that should be website absorbtion, redirection and an impersonal integration, ahh well, a quick in my opinion only moment

I hope all this helps a little, let us know what you choose to use xx

Whoop whoop - yayy

Between the two of you I have enough pointers to write a book. You've both pointed me in the right direction & jogged the memory over things I should already know. Thank you both once again for your help. I think I can safely say this question has now been answered & will soon be on it's way to my assessor.
