What strategies do you have in place to deal with children that use inappropriate language?
I've just been reading about an 'Ugly Words' activity that allows the children to talk about and write down words they feel as a group are 'ugly, 'not nice and make you feel bad !
At the end of the session each child tears a section of the written sheet and throws it into the bin
in doing so they understand the words can no longer be used in the room
Suggested words & phrases were ~ mild swear words / 'Shut up / 'You're stupid
Negative comments such as 'Go away / 'You can't / Don't do that ~ were discussed so that everyone could explain how they made them feel.
This reminded me a little of the group activity we used to have for 'Playgroup Rules ~ no running, pushing, shouting etc!
