Hi, this is knowledge & practice that your assessor may arrange to visit, observe and discuss with you

Outcome 6 - assessment criteria CYPOP 40 / Unit 115
6.3 Demonstrate how reflection on own role in an incident of challenging behaviour can improve the promotion of positive behaviour

Reflection works in a way that enables you to critically analyse what happened, what you did, what effect that had, what might of happened if you'd responded in a different way, what you might of been able to do, what could happen in the future .. this has the potential to speed up a resolution, help children negotiate more effectively with each other through the use of language, explanation, choice, avoid a situation altogether maybe by having identified triggers and re-designing the play environment or activities on offer, work with colleagues to identify specific aspects of your role and who takes responsibility for what, deployment, known figures that children have a positive relationships with, support a child individually in times of conflict, upset, the children as a group as they witness challenging behaviour or conflict and colleagues more effectively as situations occur.

Reflection helps identify proactive and reactive strategies that form a natural and planned part of daily practice, and gaps where training, professional confidence, practising responses for difficult times may be useful.

You may find that talking with parents/carers more frequently helps you keep up with what's new in a child's world and how that might be impacting on behaviour.

Using the experience of an real incident to reflect on demonstrates your true reaction and role within the team as that particular situation and behaviour occurs/ed, which provides reliable evidence to base an account of professional, self evaluation on.

Hth xx
