why don't we OVER RISK ASSESS CHILDREN?????

carry out risk assessment that takes all reasonable precautions without restricting
opportunities for development;
how organisational policy can support this

Children need to be exposed to a certain limit of risk in order to learn how to keep themselves safe. When taking part in physical activities there is always a chance that children may injure themselves. It is normal for children to sustain minor injuries such as bumps, bruises and grazes when taking part in physical play. If you restrict children from participating in physical play because of the risk of minor injury it will be more damaging to their physical development than the injury itself. When carrying out risk assessments on physical activity, the level of risk should be determined. If a child is at risk of falling over and grazing their knee on a concrete surface, this risk would be deemed acceptable, however, if the concrete surface was underneath a climbing frame, the risk of a more serious injury occurring can be reduced by providing safety mats underneath in case a child falls. By carrying out and regularly reviewing risk assessments you can determine the level of risk and reduce or remove it accordingly.

Indeed, by evaluating activities you'll see if they are ok to provide.

If they aren't, the implications for practice are that the activity is amended, changed or adapts to become suitable.

If after evaluating the activity it is appropriate - fit for purpose, implications for practice may include how to extend it or change it to meet the needs of others ..
