The kind of objects that engage children’s interest at different ages and with different needs and abilities.

Just after some ideas, its the different needs and abilities that throw's me.

It just means the abilities of different age groups (e.g. large motor control - crawling ... walking ... running etc so different large toys needed such as pushers/walkers... pull-along animals ... scooters:skateboar... or small motor control abilities would affect the type of mark makers you select for each group)

'Needs' could refer to the needs according to age (e.g. babies may need calming toys, sensory toys etc, toddlers like bright colours and character toys, whilst older children may need a challenge...)
'Needs' will also refer to 'special needs' (e.g. children with physical disabilities:wheelchai may need adapted toys, visual impaired children may need noisy toys, hearing impaired may like toys which stimulate their other senses...)

Hope that helps get you started.
