General question Theoretical Perspective on Reflective Practice and Professional Development

Hi

Sorry, this is a duplicate post as I think I posted the other thread in the wrong place.

I am new to Silkysteps (and forums!). I am currently undertaking my Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce and nearly finished. I am really excited to be starting employment at a Pre School in September.

I just wanted to find out if anyone has used theoretical perspectives for their reflective practice and professional development?

With my longitude studies I have found Gibb’s Reflective Cycle (1988) very handy (describing what happened, what was I feeling/thinking, what was good/bad with the experience, what else can I make of the situation, what else could I have done and then drawing up an action plan).

Does anyone actively use Kolb’s Learning Cycle (1984)? (doing something/having an experience, reviewing and reflecting on this, developing new ideas and then putting these into practice)?

I must admit I use to find reflection hard, but I am now find reflection so useful in my practice, especially as I am just starting out. I think I am also getting quite good at reflecting in the moment and adapting activities/teaching depending on the situation and the children.

If would be great to hear your thoughts, especially anyone who has been doing it for a long time. It would be really good to hear your experiences and learn from your practice.

Many thanks

AlexCo
