Medicine spoons.....

I wondered about others opinions on including medicine spoons in every box of children's pain relief bottles... the dispenser syringe (in the orange branded box * whistles innocently*!! ) along with the cough mixture spoon recently got thrown into the draw to join the the rest of the mounting pile .... as I am loath to throw them into the bin just because of the plastic problem we all have in general!!

The only use I've found for the syringes is for water dropping onto kitchen roll paper and felt tip pens ... water spreading and seprerating the inks!! Paint squirting and for fun in the bath... but there's only so many you can use !! and you cant even 'play' the spoons on your knee ... so what to do with them all???

The thought of bundling them all up and posting them back to the company with a 're-use please' letter did cross my mind!

So ...... are the companies being over considerate in assuring we all have the correct dosing spoon ... or plain lazy in not providing a seperate box of free spoons at the shop counter for us to pick up?

its going to be one of those "well you could be buying this product for the first time and not have spoon/cup etc" jobs, plus H/S 'cos the shops won't want to be responsible for germs on spoons if left on an open counter...OR they would have to be individually wrapped,which of course,would ADD to the plastic to be disposed of! I think we call this a no win situation!!

i agree seems a no win situation
although was talking about this at work today and we came up with
1. using them for putting glitter onto glue
2. using shallow sand trays (like the ones they write in) and using the spoons to make small sandcastles
3. pouring glue?

ok not brill ideas but we are adding them to our "please save for us list" although do think we need to ask for brand new ones / dishwash them when we get them just in case

I'm not sure if they're the same spoons we get stateside, but are they big enough around to make into finger puppets? Or stick puppets with the spoon part sticking up? I use the scoops from baby formula for powdered tempera, seem to have an abundance of those as well. :)

Xtine - puppets are a fantastic idea... the handles on these spoons are really short, they're 5ml dispensing spoons (with a 2.5ml bit on the other end ) so the 'head' part is just perfect for a puppet face and could be stuck into a clay/playdough etc body!! Goldilocks and the three bears springs to mind !!

I hadn't realised there were so many designs available!

I was just ranting about this the other day, we have a drawer full of the ones that Ruth posted above. Its such a waste.

I recently give a few of ours a good scrub, then popped them into some of my storecupboard ingredients tubs - sugars, salt, mixed herbs, etc. Any recipe that calls for a teaspoon/ 5ml of an ingredient can now be scooped quickly without having to cross the kitchen to grab a spoon. (Cos my kitchen is sooo huge! Not! :rotfl:) It was that or bore holes through the smaller spoon end and let the kids decorate them then hang them on the Christmas tree!

The other bug bear are the orange syringes found in the other well known pain relief .. there's only so much paint squirting you can do lol

I guess if you are paint squirting they get quite yukky quite quickly though? :rotfl:
