A child or young person’s social and emotional identity is what moulds a child into who they are. In our setting we believe a practitioner should always be enthusiastic with the children. Encourage them to try new things and do their best at everything. When a child does try something new, if the complete it or not they should still be praised for giving it ago which builds their confidence and resilience. If this consistently happens with a child they are more likely to build up a good resilience. This also contributes to a child’s social and emotional identity which is what they see themselves as and how emotionally able they are. This is the key for when a child is older and has and their social and emotional identity has been formed. It gives them the encouragement and confidence to try new things and to do things in which may be difficult.
It is important to build on the child’s emotional and social identity as it will determine what they do when they are older such as if having a good strong emotional and social identity it may give them more encouragement to try harder in life and believe they are able to do things which may come across as too difficult. A child who hasn’t had a strong emotional and social identity built may have a harder time believing in themselves so may find it difficult in perusing something they wish do to as they don’t believe they are good enough.
It is also important to have a good social and emotional identity as when being faced with something like a social peer pressure e.g. a group of children encouraging the young person to smoke a cigarette, if the young person has built a good social and emotional identity throughout their childhood they may believe that they are a good enough person to be able to say no and still have friends it could also give them the emotional capability to deal with this situation and even be able to deal with it if the other young people decide they don’t want to be their friend because of this occasion, knowing that if people don’t like them for who they are then they are not worth being friends with.
this is what i have written and i just wondered if there is anything else i can add to it or does this cover the question??
